When searching for a property to call home in San Diego, what do you look for? What special characteristics take a house and turn it into a home? Maybe it’s the layout or possibly the way in which the juxtaposition of the windows allows the outdoors and indoors to become one. For most, it’s a feeling.
For some, a must have is old-world character or a uniqueness that you can feel. We know a house has walls, a roof, and a foundation, but again, what makes a house a home? For me, it’s a place of refuge and safety. I can let my guard down and enjoy my family. It’s a place filled with love and comfort. As the old saying goes, home is where the heart is, and our home’s tend to reflect our values, beliefs and desires.
Lives are lived, memories are made, and emotional attachments are created in our homes; it’s pretty special, actually. Many sellers have a lot of emotional value invested when it comes to selling their homes. “How dare they not like my original 1920’s Craftsman windows.” We have to remember that when it’s time to sell, it’s time to move on mentally and treat it as a business transaction. Once you’ve decided it’s no longer your home, but just a house, then you’re ready to talk business.
