It may be the end of summer, but there’s still time to get in some last-minute fun in the sun! What better way to celebrate Labor Day than with a fun-filled weekend at one of San Diego’s best camping sites.
I’ve been to several over the years, but I have to say my favorites are:
Located on in Cardiff just south of Encinitas, San Elijo State Beach offers all the coastal fun, including car camping, swimming, surfing, and places to picnic.
There’s also a campground store and snack bar located near the entrance (March – December).
Dog friendly (just not allowed on the beach)
South Carlsbad State Beach Campground
(second favorite beach camping spot if San Elijo is full, which it will be (you’ll need reservations about a year in advance although sometimes you can get lucky)

Park the car and pop the tent. Campgrounds have bathrooms:) Feel like you are far away in a little mountain town but it’s really only about 45 minutes away.
Dog friendly
Think of it as a resort for RV and tent camping with amenities galore. Located on Mission Bay.
